Like most disasters, we have often missed the signs that were evident long before we have to deal with the devastation. There are thousands of families already dealing the childhood damage that impacts every life in this country and eventually the world, I am discussing autism.
As canaries that served as air danger indicators in mines years ago, the mounting numbers of sufferers of autistic children appears to be the “canaries” of our health issues today. What once was a relatively rare condition just 30 years ago, now affects at least 1 in 150 children in the United States.
Until now, there has been very little comprehensive description of the matrix of autism related to physical and medical dysfunctions or methods of analysis. Howevery, the innovations of the newer assessments have found new treatments, such as neuron-therapies, brain healing and sensory training.

Dr. G Frank Lawlis, co-director of five pain and stress hospital programs, has worked with patients with a variety of physical and mental disease categories including cancer, arthritis, low back pain, and depression. He is coordinator of wellness counseling at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, Palo Alto, California, and director of the Maxfield Foundation Pain Management Program conducted at Packard Children’s Hospital, Stanford Medical School.
